Mangoes, like papaya are versatile tropical fruits. Known for its golden yellow flesh which is always giving a refreshing taste to your tastebuds.
This puree can be introduced to your baby as early as 4 months and up as the flesh is very soft and sweet especially if you have a deliciously ripe variety.
There are hundreds of mango cultivars to choose from- from the green mangoes to red ones, a cross between apple and mango. Because of its wide usage, it is considered in several countries as “royal fruits”. In India, dried mangoes are use for Ayurvedic medicines.
Ingredient Selection Tips
- When choosing ripe mangoes in the supermarket, use your thumb and gently push the fruit. It should be soft to touch.
- Choose the one with green or red orange color. Depending on the variety, it usually comes golden yellow or red orange shade when ripe.
- Though some would advise blemish-free mangoes, we recommend the organic ones that has little dark spots but with no bruises. Small ones are considered sweeter.
- If it is in season especially during summer, you can buy up unripe ones and just leave it on the counter or cool place in the kitchen to ripen. Excess mangoes can also be made into jams or mango float for dessert and parfaits!
